Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking a PRN nurse aide for primarily night shifts (6p–6:30a) with rotating weekends and holidays. This role involves direct patient care, assistance with daily activities, and coordination of care within established policies. Minimum age 16 with CNA preferred and a High School diploma or GED.

The position requires good communication, teamwork, and the ability to respond promptly to patient needs while maintaining a compassionate, safe care environment.

Qualifications

• Performs routine patient care tasks as directed.
• Communicates effectively with patients and staff.
• Works within established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provides safe and direct patient care including ambulating, bathing, positioning, feeding, and attending to care needs.
• Greets patients and visitors, answers inquiries, and assists with messages and errands.
• Assists with patient mobility, measures intake/output, and transports as needed.
• Answers phones, operates paging, and supports emergencies.
• Prepares requisitions and coordinates outpatient appointments.
• Requisition of supplies and maintenance of equipment.
• Requests pastoral, social services and chaplain support as directed.
• Performs clerical duties related to admissions, discharges, and chart preparation.
• Manages interdepartmental and patient mail; keeps patient rooms orderly.
