Position Summary
The New Student Programs ( NSP ) Graduate Assistant supports the Director of New Student Programs in creating a welcoming and engaging transition experience for new students at the University of the Incarnate Word. Working closely with the Director, the Graduate Assistant helps plan, implement, and assess programs designed to foster student success and connection during their transition to the university.
In this role, the Graduate Assistant promotes New Student Programs services and resources, cultivates a sense of community among new students, and provides direct supervision, training, and support for the New Student Programs student staff.
Essential Functions
Student Engagement
- Assists with collecting metrics via the student engagement tracker to document student engagement at NSP events and activities.
- Analyses participation data and develops monthly Student Engagement reports for leadership to review.
- Collaborates with NSP Director to create new initiatives that support student engagement opportunities.
- Actively participates in innovative student engagement opportunities using technology platforms.
- Assists in facilitating events by setting up/tearing down and engaging students during events.
- Facilitates presentations to students regarding university resources, upcoming deadlines and university processes.
- Assists the NSP Director with outreach to students.
Student Staff Recruitment, Training & Supervision
- Assists in recruiting, training, and supervising student staff.
- Coordinates and facilitates staff meetings.
- Manages and maintains output on lounge television.
- Shares staff concerns with the Director.
Community Development
- Maintains a visible role on campus and is available and approachable for students.
- Encourages student interaction and maintains visibility at events and in the NSP student lounge.
- Maintains a strong presence in The Landing by maintaining office hours, coordinating events and being available during high traffic periods such as class registration and finals.
- Connects with university staff and faculty to collaborate on interdepartmental events.
- Facilitates classroom presentations regarding NSP services.
Social Media & Marketing
- Manages the NSP social media account, planning and implementing digital marketing content strategies across social media channels (TikTok and Instagram).
- Works with the NSP Director to develop a social media content calendar based on goals, events, and messages.
- Collaborates with mentors and student assistants to create student centered content and social posts.
- Records event experiences to generate marketing moments for future promotional items.
- Compiles content and creates event flyers for the NSP website, social media and UIW Engage.
Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to start, maintain, and complete projects with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to coordinate and manage events.
- Ability to work and supervise college students.
- Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Canva.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to conduct presentations to groups and communicate with various campus constituents.
- Able to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA .
Required Education
- Accepted and enrolled in a UIW graduate program.
- Must have completed at least one semester at graduate level at UIW .

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in customer service setting.

None.
Work Hours
- 25 hours per week. Normal office hours are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. -5 p.m.
- Some early mornings, evenings and weekends required for specific projects/events during the academic year.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to navigate campus.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs., stand, bend, and reach to complete certain tasks.
