Job summary

Timmons Group in Richmond, VA seeks a Civil Project Engineer I to join the Transportation Design group. You will design roadways, develop 3D models in Civil 3D or OpenRoads, and prepare plan sheets for submittals.

This entry-level role requires a bachelor’s or master’s in civil engineering; EIT is preferred. Experience with Civil 3D/OpenRoads and familiarity with VDOT standards are a bonus. We support growth and collaborative problem solving.

Timmons Group is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Project Engineer I candidate for our Richmond, VA office's Transportation Design group.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Design horizontal alignments and vertical profiles for roadway widening and improvement projects
• Develop 3D models and plans using AutoDesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenRoads Designer
• Create visualizations for client and public presentations using 3D software
• Prepare detailed plan sheets and complete project submission packages
• Perform roadway and drainage calculations using engineering software and reference materials
• Assist in preparing engineering and construction cost estimates
• Research and utilize open-source GIS data for project planning
• Conduct field observations and data collection to support design discussions
• Stay current with emerging technologies to enhance team capabilities
• Participate in client and contractor meetings to support project delivery

Skill/Requirements

• A bachelor’s or master's degree in civil engineering or a closely related degree with coursework in transportation/traffic preferred
• EIT preferred
• Experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoDesk Civil 3D (preferred)
• Familiarity with VDOT standards and procedures (preferred)

Compensation

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position is $77,000. This position is eligible for straight-time overtime. There may be flexibility on salary for experienced candidates.
