Job summary

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer I for our Richmond, VA office, within the Traffic Analysis & Planning Group. You will contribute to design details, plan sets, and multidisciplinary traffic projects, advancing from student to professional through mentorship and collaboration.

The role emphasizes field work, data collection, and reporting, with opportunities to grow in traffic analysis, corridor studies, and innovative intersection implementations as you contribute to client

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or related with coursework in transportation/traffic preferred.
  • EIT preferred.
  • Knowledge of Traffic Analyses, Planning Studies, Traffic Safety, Traffic Forecasting, Traffic Signal Design, ITS Design, and/or Traffic Signal Timing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete design details and plan sets for signal design, pedestrian safety, pavement marking and signing plans, multimodal plans, and traffic calming design.
  • Assist with quantities and cost estimates.
  • Perform field observation, inspection, and data collection as directed by senior engineers.

Job description

Job Description Are you ready to take the first step in your civil engineering career with a company that values innovation, collaboration, and professional growth? Timmons Group is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Project Engineer I candidate for our Richmond, VA office's Traffic Analysis & Planning Group.

Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Work to complete design details and plan sets for a variety of project types, i.e. signal design, pedestrian safety, pavement marking and signing plans, multimodal plans, traffic calming design, lighting design
  • Contribute to quantities and cost estimates
  • Complete field observation, inspection, and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staff
  • Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilizes computers in order to solve problems
  • Research and prepare material specifications, installation guidelines, and inspection protocols
  • Support senior engineering staff through the construction phase with field and office support
  • Collaborate with client staff and internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff
  • Bicycle/pedestrian/multi-modal feasibility, analysis, design, and implementation
  • Complete operational analysis, corridor studies, traffic studies, innovative intersection implementation, traffic calming, and safety analysis
  • Prepare technical reports to support the engineering efforts and drive project success
Skills/Requirements
  • A bachelor’s or master's degree in civil engineering or a closely related degree with coursework in transportation/traffic preferred
  • EIT preferred
  • Knowledge of Traffic Analyses, Planning Studies, Traffic Safety, Traffic Forecasting, Traffic Signal Design, ITS Design, and/or Traffic Signal Timing is preferred
Compensation:

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position is $77,000. This position is eligible for straight-time overtime. There may be flexibility on salary for experienced candidates. Offers are based on a range of job-related factors such as internal equity, experience, skills, education, credential's role complexity.
