Job summary

Timmons Group is seeking a Civil Project Engineer II/III to join our Roadway Design Transportation Group in Richmond, VA. This role offers the chance to work on impactful transportation projects with a collaborative team.

Responsibilities include designing roadways, developing 3D models, creating client visualizations, and preparing detailed plan packages. A minimum of 2 years in traffic/roadway design is expected along with Civil 3D/OpenRoads proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum 2+ years of transportation civil engineering experience, roadway design.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenRoads Designer preferred.

• Design horizontal alignments and vertical profiles for roadway widening and improvement projects.
• Develop 3D models and plans using Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads Designer.
• Create visualizations for client and public presentations using 3D software.
• Prepare detailed plan sheets and complete project submission packages.
• Perform roadway and drainage calculations using engineering software.
• Assist in preparing engineering and construction cost estimates.
• Research and utilize open-source GIS data for project planning.
• Conduct field observations and data collection to support design discussions.
• Stay current with emerging technologies to enhance team capabilities.
• Participate in client and contractor meetings to support project delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Design horizontal alignments and vertical profiles for roadway widening and improvement projects
• Develop 3D models and plans using AutoDesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenRoads Designer
• Create visualizations for client and public presentations using 3D software
• Prepare detailed plan sheets and complete project submission packages
• Perform roadway and drainage calculations using engineering software and reference materials
• Assist in preparing engineering and construction cost estimates
• Research and utilize open-source GIS data for project planning
• Conduct field observations and data collection to support design discussions
• Stay current with emerging technologies to enhance team capabilities
• Participate in client and contractor meetings to support project delivery

Skill/Requirements

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
• 2+ years of experience in transportation civil engineering, specifically roadway design
• Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoDesk Civil 3D preferred
• Familiarity with VDOT standards and procedures preferred
• EIT certification preferred

Compensation:

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position is $82,000-$115,000. This position is eligible for straight-time overtime. There may be flexibility on salary for experienced candidates. Offers are based on a range of job-related factors such as internal equity, experience, skills, education, credentials role complexity.
