Job summary

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is seeking a Mechanical Engineer entry-level (PhD/MS New Graduate) to join our hardware design team. The role is designed as hybrid, requiring two in-office days per week at a California site, with duties spanning mechanical design, development, and qualification of networking products and systems.

You will work under the Head of Mechanical Engineering, learning from senior engineers while contributing to product development.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Recent graduate or up to 2 years of relevant engineering experience.
• MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the mechanical design and development of networking systems, chassis, line cards, and related hardware from concept through production.
• Create and modify 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
• Apply mechanical engineering fundamentals including GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials selection, structural mechanics, and heat transfer.
• Participate in prototype builds, laboratory testing, design verification, and product qualification.
• Assist with mechanical failure investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Work closely with senior engineers to evaluate design concepts and identify technical risks.
• Collaborate with Electrical, Thermal, Signal Integrity, Reliability, Manufacturing, Operations, and Supply Chain teams.
• Support DFM/DFA activities and learn manufacturing processes including sheet metal fabrication, machining, die casting, extrusion, and plastics.
