Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support aseptic technique and detailed instrument handling in the operating room. The role requires assisting in supplies, preparation, and room turnover across a range of procedures including neurosurgery and robotics.

The candidate should have graduated from an accredited surgical technology program or completed military Surgical Technology training, with NBSTSA/NCCT certification and 5 years of OR experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology required or successful completion of military training program for Surgical Technology or Operating Room Specialist.
• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider required.
• Current certification through NBSTSA or NCCT.
• 5 years of total operating room experience in surgical technologist role required; 2 years of specialized training in neurosurgery/spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex ortho, and robotics.
• Meets all ST III qualifications of Surgical Tech Ladder.
• Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development and age-specific patient needs.

Responsibilities

• Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during and after surgical procedure.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Assists RN circulator in patient prep, supplies assembly, and room turnover.
• Works on specialized procedures in neurosurgery, spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex orthopedics, and robotics.
• Monitors sterility of instruments and docs charges and sterilization activities.
• Attends in-services and staff meetings and participates in Performance Improvement.
• Serves as a preceptor and clinical resource to others.
