Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support Registered Nurses in direct and indirect patient care. You will assist with admissions, discharge planning, vital signs, newborn care and post-operative support, under RN supervision.

The role emphasizes patient safety, timely response to call lights, and collaboration within the unit. A CNA certification or enrollment in a nursing program is required, with CPR/BLS and a HIgh school diploma as minimums.

Qualifications

• CNA Certification or enrollment in a nursing program is required.
• CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers) is required.
• Minimum 90% on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes.
• Unit-based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring.
• High school diploma required; one year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with ability to relate to patients, family, nursing and medical staff.
• Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct patient care including admission, transfer, discharge, vital signs, and newborn care.
• Indirect patient care such as maintaining a safe, clean environment and stocking supplies.
• Assist with pre/post-operative care and transport of patients.
• Respond to patient calls and emergencies.
• Follow policies and participate in quality improvement activities.

Education

CNA Certification or enrolled in Nursing program

High school diploma

1 year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience

Associates or Bachelor's degree (preferred)
