Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support Registered Nurses in delivering direct patient care in the unit. The role involves assisting with admissions, vital signs, specimen collection, newborn care, and post-operative support.

The candidate will work under RN supervision, ensure patient comfort and safety, and participate in quality improvement activities while following policies and procedures. A CNA or nursing student with clinical rotations is preferred.

Qualifications

• CNA Certification or currently enrolled in Nursing program with basic clinical rotations completed.
• CPR certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
• Mandatory health and safety training with ≥90% score annually.
• Unit-based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
• Record vitals and patient measurements (temp, pulse, respirations, weight, height, BP).
• Perform phlebotomy, capillary glucose checks, and newborn screenings as directed.
• Provide morning, evening, and peri-care; help with feeding, baths, and mobility.
• Set up and monitor oxygen, suction, and respiratory equipment.
• Transports patients and supplies; respond to emergencies and call lights.
• Maintain safe, clean environment; restock supplies and document observations.
