Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support Registered Nurses in direct and indirect patient care within our hospital units. You will assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and monitoring, while ensuring patient comfort and safety.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, EKG, newborn care, glucose checks, and maintaining a clean, safe environment. Strong communication and teamwork are essential in delivering high-quality care.

Qualifications

• CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing who has successfully completed basic clinical rotations.
• CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
• Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes.
• Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring.
• High school diploma required. One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred.
• Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with a demonstrated ability to relate to patients, family, nursing and medical staff.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care Activities: Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge process; takes vitals and monitors patients.
• Performs phlebotomy, EKG, newborn care, and newborn screening tasks as directed.
• Prepares patients for meals and assists or feeds as needed; provides morning and evening care.
• Transports patients and equipment during urgent or emergent situations and to discharge.
• Maintains a safe, clean environment and stocks supplies; participates in unit operations and QC activities.
• Responds to emergency situations and notifies RN of any change in patient condition.
