Job summary

UAB Medicine in Alabama’s Birmingham area seeks a Surgical Technologist to support the Main Or, facilitating safe performance of procedures in a high-stakes environment at UAB St. Vincent's East.

Responsibilities include sterile setup, instrument handing, patient positioning, and instrument count tracking. Required BLS plus NBSTSA or NCCT credentials, with a high school diploma and surgical technologist program (or 4 years of experience); an associates degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
• Surgical Tech credentialed from NBSTSA or NCCT obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.

• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor/track instruments counts throughout procedures.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• One or more of the following required:
  • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

• High school diploma equivalency AND completion of a surgical technologist program with a clinical component OR a minimum of 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.
