Job summary

Culpeper County Public Schools is seeking a Network Technician to maintain a smooth operating environment for staff and students. Responsibilities include repairing district computers, Chromebooks, printers, and network equipment, plus ensuring devices connect to the correct SSIDs and are properly managed in AD.

You will install software, update patches, monitor the eWork order system, maintain equipment inventory, and support online testing events.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A+ certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in a large enterprise environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general technology support to staff and students.
  • Diagnose and repair district computers, laptops, Chromebooks, and printers.
  • Install software and updates on Windows and Chrome devices and printers.
  • Monitor the eWork order system and resolve tickets promptly.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for district equipment.
  • Maintain network cabling and terminate network/phone connections.
  • Assist with hardware/software for online SOL testing and similar events.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administration as a CCPS representative.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology or Lead Technician.

Job Description
JOB SUMMARY

The position of Network Technician is to maintain a smooth operating environment for staff in regard to their electronic needs. This includes repairing student devices, repairing equipment necessary for an effective teaching environment, and ensuring that the network/administrative team is able to perform their duties without issue whether it involves moving devices onto their proper SSID's or having a list of devices to be removed to prevent duplicates in AD.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provide general technology support/assistance to school personnel and students;
  • Diagnose problems and repair the district's computers, laptops, chromebooks and printer hardware;
  • Install approved software and update patches on the district computers, to include Windows and Chrome devices as well as printers;
  • Monitor the district's eWork order system and provide timely resolution to work tickets submitted by staff;
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for district equipment;
  • Maintain the network cabling for both district computer and phone networks to include making network patch cables, phone cables, and terminating network/phone connections at both the desk/office jack and network wiring closets;
  • Assist with hardware/software for online SOL testing and other similar district testing events;
  • Communicate openly and effectively with students, parents, community patrons, staff and administration as a positive representative of the Culpeper County Public School system;
  • Duties as assigned by the Director of Technology or the Lead Technician; and
  • Performs other assigned duties.
  • Troubleshoot and install of classroom cabling, including audio-visual systems;
  • Application deployment via MDM solution
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
  • A high school diploma or equivalent;
  • At least 1 - 3 years' experience working in a large enterprise environment providing hardware and software support;
  • A+ or equivalent certification desired;
  • DELL shop Certification within a year of hire;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to provide hardware and software support in a large enterprise environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is typically performed in the central office and throughout the division: frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 40 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Travel to schools throughout the division and central office is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment exposes the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions. Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all CCPS employees. To ensure adequate staffing, positive employee morale, and to meet expected productivity standards throughout the organization, employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.

EVALUATION

The supervisor will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
