Job summary

Riverside Health System is seeking a Network Security Engineer I in Newport News, VA to implement and maintain security tools protecting health-system infrastructure and patient data. You’ll work with cross-functional teams, report to the Director of Enterprise Identity Services and Cybersecurity, and contribute to critical security projects.

The role requires hands-on security expertise, collaboration, and growth in a healthcare‑oriented environment, with on-site duties and after-hours support

Qualifications

• 3-4 years hands-on experience with technical security solutions including firewalls, IPS/IDS, SIEM, endpoint protection, MFA.
• 3-4 years experience enforcing security policies, procedures and controls to safeguard data and systems.
• 2 years working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, Windows Server, and Linux operating systems.
• 1 year experience with Azure and/or AWS cloud security.
• Experience in healthcare, hospital, or regulated industries is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, triage, and analyze vulnerability scan results and support remediation plans.
• Assist senior engineers in conducting network security risk assessments and document findings.
• Administer and monitor host-based security solutions and enforce security policies.
• Respond to security alerts and implement preventative controls.
• Maintain documentation including incident reports, runbooks, and asset inventories.
• Collaborate with teams to gather security requirements for new systems and infrastructure.
• Maintain firewalls and network security infrastructure to ensure uptime.
• Support design, testing, and deployment of security infrastructure changes.
