Job summary

UCSF Health is seeking a Network Field Services Technician to support the university’s IT ecosystem. This role focuses on onsite field assistance, troubleshooting, installation, and lifecycle management for network equipment and IDF facilities across campus and affiliate sites.

You will help ensure operable, secure, and efficient network services, coordinating with teams to deliver reliable IT infrastructure in a high-demand academic medical environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering, or related field.
• 1+ year of experience in network services, field services, IT, or network operations; 3 years preferred.
• Experience in a technical support role, preferably in field operations.
• Must have valid California driver’s license and complete UCSF transportation course.
• Ability to diagnose and solve problems from non-technical client descriptions.
• Technical knowledge of computer hardware/software, OS, networks, and inventory management.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
• Ability to maintain records of work, problems, and solutions for knowledge base.
• Experience with project management and scheduling in a professional setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite field assistance for requests, troubleshooting, logistics, installation, maintenance, and lifecycle management of network equipment, UPS, and IDF facilities.
• Respond to network service disruptions 24/7/365 to restore operations.
• Troubleshoot network issues, optimize performance, and implement reliable network solutions.
• Maintain documentation of work performed, problems encountered, and solutions implemented.
• Plan, design, develop, install, and maintain UCSF network systems across university facilities and affiliates.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure secure, reliable IT services and smooth end-user support.
