Job summary

University of California, Berkeley seeks a Network Engineer to ensure performance and resiliency of the campus network. You will manage equipment across on‑prem and AWS, support remote field stations, and collaborate with multiple teams to secure data flows.

Responsibilities include maintaining hardware, coordinating complex projects, and advising on network solutions. Requires Linux experience, OSI knowledge, and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • Expert-level understanding of OSI layer 2/3 networking.
  • Hands-on experience with networking hardware installation and maintenance.
  • Experience with Linux systems and scripting for data tools.
  • Ability to coordinate complex network projects and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain networking equipment across 200+ remote stations and data centers.
  • Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with partners.
  • Manage security and firmware; work with vendors on issues.
  • Plan data flow needs and oversee design, procurement, deployment.
  • Provide expert network advice and collaborate with other units.
