Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Code Compliance Officer in the Neighborhood Investigations Division to enforce building codes and zoning regulations and inspect properties for violations.

Responsibilities include investigations, records, and reporting; requires a High School Diploma, valid Texas driver's license, and the ability to obtain the Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certificate within 18 months. The position offers competitive pay and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, or GED with specialized training in code enforcement, building codes, and zoning regulations
• One year of general experience in building/construction trades, zoning, or enforcement of laws/regulations
• Valid Driver's License
• Ability to obtain Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certificate within 18 months
• Must pass Pre-Employment Drug Screen, Physical and Criminal Background check

Responsibilities

• Inspect single family homes, apartment buildings, businesses, vacant lots and other properties; inspect environmental hazards; ensure compliance with zoning and environmental health codes, ordinances and regulations
• Enforce building codes and zoning regulations for residential and commercial properties
• Perform complaint investigations by responding to alleged violations; interview complainants and witnesses; photograph violations; document activities and update records
• Maintain records and reports of inspections and activities; prepare reports as required
• Respond to public inquiries; provide information; resolve complaints in a timely manner
• Assist in preparing case reports for court or administrative proceedings; testify in court and at proceedings as necessary
• Participate in joint enforcement efforts with Environmental Services and Fort Worth Police Department to manage difficult cases

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Valid Driver's License

Possession of or ability to obtain State of Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certificate within 18 months
