Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is hiring a Code Compliance Officer in the Neighborhood Investigations Division to ensure property and zoning codes are followed across Fort Worth. The role involves inspecting properties, enforcing codes, handling investigations, and preparing reports for court or admin proceedings.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, one year of related experience, a Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certificate within 18 months, and the ability to pass background checks.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED supplemented by specialized training in code enforcement, building codes, and zoning regulations
• One year of general experience in building or construction trades, zoning, or enforcement of local, state and federal laws or regulations
• Valid Driver's License
• Ability to obtain Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certificate within eighteen (18) months of hire
• Pass Pre-Employment Drug Screen, Physical and Criminal Background check

Responsibilities

• Inspecting single family homes, apartment buildings, businesses, vacant lots and other properties
• Inspect environmental hazards
• Enforcing building codes and zoning regulations for residential and commercial properties
• Performing complaint investigations by responding to alleged violations
• Maintaining records and reports of inspections and activities; preparing reports as required; testifying in court when necessary
• Participating in joint enforcement efforts with Environmental Services and Fort Worth Police Department to manage complex cases
