Job summary

Greater Chicago Food Depository in Chicago, IL is seeking a Customer Service Specialist to serve neighbors with high-quality, value-aligned support. You will connect callers to SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, and home delivery resources, pre-screen for eligibility, and document interactions in our CRM.

Responsibilities include handling inquiries in-person and by phone, guiding callers through benefits applications, meeting KPIs, and collaborating with Benefits, Home Delivery, and partner teams to improve

Qualifications

• 2 years of customer service experience required.
• High integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction.
• Diplomatic and professional communication in verbal and written form.
• Pleasant, patient, friendly with strong listening skills.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
• Experience serving diverse communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality customer service in-person and by phone.
• Assess caller needs and screen for services per SOP.
• Own calls throughout the lifecycle of a caller's request, including follow-ups.
• Deliver on KPIs and organizational goals.
• Use Neighbor CRM metrics and assist with reporting.
• Document neighbor calls in relevant tech platforms and maintain case files.
• Recommend system/process improvements to boost efficiency.
• Monitor referral partners to ensure quality experience.
• Provide cross-functional support to Benefits, Home Delivery, and other teams.
• Initiate and organize projects while handling calls.
• Maintain client confidentiality and handle challenging callers.
• Collaborate across departments to address issues.
• Stay informed on public benefits and depts programs.
• Participate in internal meetings on SNAP and Medicaid developments.
• Identify and pursue projects, ensuring follow-through.
• Connect neighbors to WIC, Medicaid, emergency assistance, and other resources.
• Represent the Food Depository in internal and external settings.
• Assist neighbors with SNAP/Medicaid applications and WIC referrals.
• Provide admin support for benefits applications and documents.
