Job summary

ERM seeks a Principal Consultant, Archaeologist to lead cultural resources programs across the United States. The role involves directing investigations, mentoring teams, and expanding client relationships within a sustainability-focused consulting environment.

You will oversee multi-state projects, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with engineers, biologists, GIS professionals, and other specialists to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions for energy and infrastructure clients.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 6–8 years of related paid experience.
  • RPA certification meeting SHPO requirements.
  • Principal oversight for inventories, surveys, testing, or data recovery.
  • Experience authoring or reviewing agency-reviewed reports.
  • Experience with interacting with regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a permitted BLM Principal Investigator.
  • Obtain necessary federal/state permits for projects.
  • Provide QA/QC review of deliverables.
  • Oversee desktop studies and field investigations (reconnaissance, pedestrian surveys, testing, excavations).
  • Lead archaeologists across experience levels, including hiring and mentoring.
  • Coordinate with unit leads and directors to support performance and delivery.
  • Sign as PI or Task Manager for cultural resources studies on major projects.
  • Ensure projects meet scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
