Job summary

SMA America is seeking a Field Service Engineer, Medium Voltage for the Western region, based in the San Diego area. The role involves testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of SMA MV systems in the field with travel across the Western U.S.

We provide a company truck, tools, and sponsored MV certification, plus inverter training at Rocklin and a defined three-level career path to grow with SMA.

Qualifications

• At least one year of hands-on electrical/field service experience.
• Exposure to medium voltage equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, terminations, or substation work.
• An associate degree in electrical or electronic technology, a completed trade or apprenticeship program, military technical training, or equivalent qualified experience.
• Comfort with electronic test equipment and ability to read prints/schematics.
• Willingness to travel up to ~80% and work nonstandard hours.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing, inspection, maintenance, and repair of SMA Large Scale Medium Voltage systems in the field.
• Conduct DGA sampling and apply results to determine action.
• Maintain accurate documentation and field service reports.
• Travel to customer sites; operate company-provided truck.
• Collaborate with Global Service Organization, Quality, and suppliers for RCA status; provide customer updates.
• Train and mentor Level I/II technicians and support level progression.
