Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a Music teacher for a replacement contract for the 2026-2027 school year. Begin date is 11/16/2026. Position is 1.0 FTE (7.5 hours daily) with a comprehensive benefits package.

Requires a valid WA state teaching certificate endorsed in Elementary Education K-8 and/or Music, plus successful background checks. The assignment ends on the last student day in June 2027, with continued benefits through that period.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university with appropriate educational endorsement; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
• Valid Washington State teaching certificate.
• Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
• Knowledge of applicable Washington State and Federal rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Develops, plans and strategizes a program of study based on learners’ needs and creates a conducive learning environment.
• Assesses student progress, provides grades and referrals for evaluation as needed.
• Supports district curriculum and policies; fosters student achievement and conduct.
• Prepares lesson plans with clear objectives and differentiates instruction.
• Maintains open communication with students, parents and staff; conducts conferences.
• Maintains accurate records and uses data to adjust instruction; tracks student growth.
• Supervises students and ensures safety and proper behavior in the classroom and school setting.
