Job summary

Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) is seeking part-time Security Officers to safeguard the collections and ensure an inclusive visitor experience. You’ll patrol galleries, exterior doors, and secure areas, while supporting crowd control during events and maintaining open communication with the Command Center.

Strong customer service and multilingual abilities are a plus, with flexible hours including evenings. Starting wage is $21.65/hour, with shift differentials possible for certain shifts.

Qualifications

• Ability to provide excellent customer service to visitors, staff, and volunteers.
• Flexibility to cover varied shifts, including evenings and weekends as needed.
• Physical stamina for walking and stairs; able to navigate multiple floors and climate conditions.
• Familiarity with security equipment and basic computer use.
• Multilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide superior customer service to visitors, staff and volunteers.
• Perform routine patrols of galleries, exterior doors, laboratories, and secure areas.
• Assist with crowd control during exhibitions and events.
• Maintain communication with the Command Center and report security concerns.
• Identify potential security risks with keen observation and calm handling of incidents.
• Work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment.
• Handle security systems and basic computer tasks with attention to detail.
