Job summary

University of Michigan seeks an Off Campus Non-Profit Student Employee- Collections Assistant (Fall Work Study Only) to support the Collections Department at Sloan Discovery Museum. Responsibilities include documentation, data entry, and assisting with preservation, storage, and display projects under the Archivist or Collections Manager.

Eligible undergraduate students will gain experience in museum ethics, storage practices, and project-based work in a collaborative environment with staff

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan driver's license and ability to pass background screening.
• Must be eligible for Work Study Fall 2026.
• Undergraduate student pursuing a career in museums.
• Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds and work in various environments.
• Knowledge of museum ethics and collections management best practices.

Responsibilities

• Supports collections care, archival and collections management projects.
• Documentation and data entry.
• Research.
• Maintain a clean and organized storage/workspace.
• Adhere to museum policies, especially on security and safety.
• Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Collections Manager.
