Job summary

The Assistant Curator at Michigan State University’s museum contributes to the curatorial vision and develops exhibitions, acquisitions, and programs aligned with strategic goals. This role supports scholarship, public engagement, and experiential learning, reporting to the Senior Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs, and partners across the museum and campus.

Qualifications

• Experience assisting with the development of thematic and monographic art exhibitions and publications.
• Experience assisting interdisciplinary projects and supporting strategic partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
• Three or more years of curatorial/museum experience.
• Broad knowledge of art history and developments in curatorial practice and theory.
• Three years of experience working within the museum field, or related cultural organizations.

Responsibilities

• Exhibition Development: Develops and implements museum exhibitions aligned with strategic goals and standards.
• Contribute to Collection Growth and Stewardship: Supports collection roadmap and object files.
• Grant Development: Participates in curatorial team’s grant writing and materials.
• Support Fundraising and Donor Relations: Builds relationships with artists, collectors, foundations, and donors.
• Cultivate Campus and Community Partnerships: Represents the museum with partners on and off campus.
• Serve as Museum Ambassador Locally and Nationally: Engages in professional networks and scholarly work.
• Committee Coordination: Coordinates Collections Committee activities and meetings.
• Teaching: May teach or provide experiential learning opportunities to students.

Education

Masters - Art History, Curatorial Practice, Arts Administration or related field
