Job summary

University Arts And Collections in East Lansing seeks an Assistant Curator to contribute to curatorial vision and develop exhibitions, acquisitions, and programs. Reporting to Senior Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs, the role supports scholarship, publications, and public engagement.

The position advances artistic excellence and experiential learning through collaboration with campus and external partners, including exhibitions, research, and fundraising initiatives.

Qualifications

• Masters - Desired area of study in Art History, Curatorial Practice, Arts Administration or related field
• Experience assisting with the development of thematic and monographic art exhibitions and publications
• Experience assisting interdisciplinary projects and supporting strategic partnerships with diverse stakeholders; and three or more years of curatorial/museum experience
• Broad knowledge of art history and developments in curatorial practice and theory, with focus on key issues in the field
• Three years of experience working within the museum field, or related cultural organizations
• Three to five years of experience working within the museum field, or related cultural organizations
• Established history of publications, conference presentations, lecturing, and educational experience at university/college level

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement museum exhibitions aligned with strategic goals
• Support collection growth and stewardship including object files
• Participate in grant writing for exhibitions, programs, and publications
• Assist fundraising and donor relations through collaborations with leadership
• Cultivate partnerships with campus and external institutions
• Represent the museum at conferences, scholarly publications, and professional networks
• Coordinate committee activities and document proceedings
• Potential teaching role in classes, lectures, and experiential learning
