Job Title: Museum Attendant

Full-Time: 40 hours per week, Wednesday - Sunday (Availability must include weekends)

Job Summary

The Museum Attendant (MA) is a vital part of our Visitor Experience team, responsible for delivering excellent customer service, engaging visitors effectively, and ensuring the protection of artworks.

As stewards of the visitor experience at MASS MoCA, MAs share knowledge about exhibitions and artists, promote programs, explain the museum's history and architecture, and encourage exploration of the local community and the Berkshires. They are trained to interact with diverse audiences, foster connections with artworks, and promote dialogue.

MAs also ensure artworks are protected and visitors adhere to museum policies regarding food, drink, photography, and contact with artworks.

Reporting to the Visitor Experience Manager, MAs work closely with various staff to support training, scheduling, and other operational needs, aligning the visitor experience with the museum’s mission.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality guest service, maintaining professionalism and engagement with visitors and staff.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures, including activating artwork displays, lighting, refilling guides, reviewing reservations, and preparing exhibits.
• Answer visitor questions, share exhibition and city information, and, after training, conduct public or private tours.
• Ensure visitors wear proper admission wristbands or stickers.
• Assist in training new team members.
• Protect artworks by monitoring gallery behavior and restricting touching or contact with art.
• Perform daily checks of exhibits and galleries.
• Assist with exhibition reservations and manage visitor flow in reservation spaces.
• Guide visitors through the museum, providing directions and suggestions.
• Support special events, performances, openings, and programs.
• Promote museum memberships and stay informed about promotions.
• Cross-train in other visitor experience roles, including Box Office support, and support job-sharing shifts as needed.
• Attend mandatory training and meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
