Job summary

University of Pikeville’s Big Sandy Heritage Center seeks a Museum Assistant to support daily operations, visitor services, and exhibit work. You’ll rotate across front desk, gift shop, and installations to ensure a welcoming experience and proper collection care.

The role emphasizes outreach, research, and ongoing learning, with a schedule including multiple weekdays and Saturdays. Training provided; current UPIKE student preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be a current UPIKE student in good standing.
• Entry-level supervisor experience and reporting to Brandon R. Kirk.
• Willing to work a schedule including Mon-Sat 10:00 AM–4:00 PM.
• Ability to perform visitor services, gift shop, and exhibit support.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and inform visitors at the museum.
• Handle admissions, assist gift shop, and manage cash.
• Care for and maintain the museum collection.
• Sort, arrange, catalogue, and inventory artifacts and photos.
• Conduct online and library research related to the collection.
• Assist with installation and de-installation of exhibits.
