Job summary

NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities seeks a maintenance tradesperson to perform semi-skilled tasks across carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry and electrical within campus settings or community residences. Role involves routine tasks, travel in the Capital District, and following detailed instructions.

Candidate will work under supervision, with opportunities to advance to journey level activities and participate in safety and code compliance programs.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time maintenance or mechanical experience under supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
• Or completion of an appropriate two year technical school course or equivalent.
• Valid New York State driver’s license for the type of vehicle operated.
• NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program details include 288 hours of instruction and related coursework.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lay out construction, repair and maintenance projects.
• Perform semi-skilled carpentry such as door and floor tile repairs and installation.
• Repair, install, and adjust locks, door closures, hinges, and hardware.
• Install glass in windows, doors and partitions.
• Build, repair, and install cabinets, bookcases, shelving.
• Erect wall partitions and assist in painting preparation.
• May perform routine electrical tasks (lighting installs, switches, receptacles).
• Perform semi-skilled masonry repairs and installations.
• Perform minor plumbing tasks with supervision.
• Daily travel within the Capital District and occasional travel to other NY districts for special projects.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and systems.
• Perform grounds work and snow removal as assigned.
