Job summary

Eastern Lycoming Branch YMCA seeks an Assistant Child Care Teacher to support a developmentally appropriate daily program for children. You will assist in planning activities, supporting social-emotional growth, and collaborating with staff and families.

You will help maintain a safe, healthy classroom, lead small groups, and participate in team meetings while upholding YMCA values and multi-cultural curricula.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and two years of related child care experience.
• Act 33 background check and FBI fingerprinting conducted.
• Biannual physical examination and initial TB test; free from infectious disease.
• Ability to work well with young children and coworkers.
• Ability to supervise adults when necessary.
• Complete New Staff Orientation.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications required within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to plan and implement age-appropriate developmentally appropriate activities.
• Experience with diverse populations and ability to build positive relationships.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining an efficient classroom with organized interest areas.
• Provide materials and activities supporting children’s developmental progress.
• Assist in planning a multi-sensory classroom environment.
• Ensure child safety with adequate supervision.
• Maintain positive communication with families and staff.
• Assist in curriculum planning including diversity in materials and displays.
• Attend staff meetings and prepare classroom materials and learning centers.
• Support in self-help skills and daily routines for children.
