Job summary

Toole Design Group in Gaithersburg, MD is seeking a Transportation Project Engineer to join our growing Mid-Atlantic team. You will apply your engineering expertise to deliver multimodal transportation solutions on urban and suburban projects, reporting to the Gaithersburg office with field visits as needed.

You’ll collaborate with designers and regulators, mentor junior staff, and contribute to signing, pavement marking, and traffic studies.

Qualifications

• PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• 6+ years of experience in transportation engineering.
• Experience developing roadway/highway construction documents.
• Experience with signing and pavement marking per MUTCD; PROWAG familiarity.
• Experience with Highway Capacity Software, SIDRA, and/or VISSIM.
• Experience with permitting, agency coordination, construction documentation, and cost estimating.

Responsibilities

• Support client in day-to-day activities, including traffic studies, investigations and determination of the need to install traffic control devices.
• Contribute to the design of transportation infrastructure projects.
• Develop signing and pavement marking plans, MOT plans, and traffic signal plans.
• Use Synchro, Highway Capacity Software, MicroStation, and AutoCAD for production work.
• Contribute to studies such as road diet feasibility, roundabouts, trail/roadway intersections, and parking.
• Develop feasibility studies, concept plans, and construction documents.
• Collaborate with colleagues and clients to deliver high-quality multimodal transportation outcomes.
• Mentor junior staff and support a culture of technical excellence.
