Job summary

Cortland is seeking a Maintenance Technician for our community in Herndon, VA. This full‑spectrum role handles electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances, and building systems, with a focus on preventing hazards and keeping residents safe and comfortable.

You'll coordinate and complete work orders, maintain inventory, and document work accurately. On-call rotations and after-hours responses are required, and strong communication with residents is essential to success in this fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• EPA certification Type I, II, or Universal required.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3+ years of maintenance experience in multifamily or facilities.
• Hands-on competency in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances, and building systems.

Responsibilities

• Process and complete work orders across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliance, and building-system tasks.
• Prevent hazards, correct safety issues, and track inventory to prevent delays.
• Schedule and perform preventative maintenance on HVAC units and equipment.
• Maintain accurate paperwork and documentation of completed work.
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond to after-hours emergencies; communicate with residents clearly.
