Job summary

Cortland in Herndon, VA is seeking a Maintenance Technician to keep our multifamily community safe, functional, and well maintained by diagnosing and repairing a wide range of building systems. You will serve residents with timely, high-quality service and support preventative maintenance programs.

You will handle electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances, and building components; respond to on-call rotations; document work; and help preserve the property's physical assets with attention to detail

Qualifications

• EPA certification (Type I, II, or Universal) is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 1–3+ years of maintenance or facilities experience in multi-family housing.
• Strong technical skills in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliance repair, and building systems.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and handle multiple work orders.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to safely operate tools and maintenance equipment.
• Good communication and customer-service skills.
• Ability to perform physical work including lifting, climbing ladders, and working indoors/outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Willingness to participate in on-call schedules and respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and resolve maintenance issues across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances, and building components.
• Correct unsafe conditions quickly and safely.
• Monitor and report condition of building/security systems such as automatic doors and surveillance cameras.
• Schedule and perform preventative maintenance on HVAC units, equipment, and building systems.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and spare parts to complete work orders.
• Respond to on-call rotations and emergency maintenance needs.
• Provide friendly, professional service to residents and teammates.
• Document work and report recurring issues to your supervisor.
