Saint-Gobain/CertainTeed is seeking a Maintenance Technician in Huntsville, AL to perform daily equipment and facility maintenance. You will inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and fabricate to support production and environmental systems, with a strong focus on safety and reliability.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, data recording, and effective communication with the maintenance team and leadership.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required with technical training.
  • Welding certifications or on-the-job training preferred.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude for industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience improving equipment reliability and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical malfunctions; perform preventive maintenance.

Job description

We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated Maintenance Technician responsible for performing daily equipment and facility maintenance activities in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner. The successful candidate will inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, fabricate, and make mechanical and electrical adjustments to a wide variety of plant equipment and facility systems. This includes production process equipment, HVAC systems, metal detection equipment, crushers, weighing and blending systems, conveyors, pumps, valves, piping, environmental and waste systems, fans, storage tanks, compressed air systems, fire protection systems, and facility structures.

Essential Duties:

  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical equipment malfunctions, completing preventive maintenance activities, and ensuring all maintenance documentation is accurate and up to date.

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, monitor pollution control and auxiliary equipment, inspect transformers and cooling systems, and report any abnormalities immediately.

  • Assist in constructing, modifying, and improving equipment and facility systems while recording operational data such as temperatures, pressures, and meter readings using computerized systems, spreadsheets, and databases.

  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards, follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision, and proactively identify spare parts needs to support maintenance operations. A commitment to safety is essential, including strict adherence to company policies, environmental health and safety standards, and all applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and consistently perform maintenance activities with little to no supervision is required. A strong focus on equipment reliability, quality, continuous improvement, and teamwork will contribute to success in this role.

  • Demonstrated welding and fabrication experience, including MIG, TIG, and ARC welding, with the ability to safely use grinders, drills, saws, and other shop equipment.

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

  • Technical training, equipment certifications, welding certifications, or relevant on-the-job training (OJT) required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to accurately record operational data, document maintenance activities, report equipment issues, and communicate equipment and system status to team members and leadership.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while effectively prioritizing tasks and responding to changing production needs.

  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining industrial equipment and facility systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.

  • Working knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, and industrial electrical systems preferred.

  • Proficiency using computers for data entry, maintenance records, spreadsheets, and reporting.

  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, housekeeping, and continuous improvement.

  • Ability to work around industrial equipment, high-voltage systems, and manufacturing environments while following all company safety policies and procedures.

  • Ability to operate or become certified to operate forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and overhead cranes.
