Job summary

The MRI Technologist I at Advocate Health performs procedures per departmental protocols, operating MRI scanners and related equipment with proficiency. Responsibilities include preparing patients, verifying orders, administering IV contrast when required, and assisting Radiologists during exams.

You'll contribute to patient safety through radiation protection practices, record keeping, and collaboration with nursing staff.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Active enrollment in an MRI ARRT registry eligible or ARMRIT program required. MRI registry must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development.
  • Demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.
  • Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation. Frequently may be required to stretch, bend twist, squat or kneel in the daily operation of the MRI department. May be exposed to various physical conditions throughout the day such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, being near moving equipment. Required to use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation.

Responsibilities

  • Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exam.
  • Properly identify and assist patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures.
  • Prepares patients for the procedure with a full explanation and documents on appropriate worksheets.
  • Interviews patients for a complete medical history and reviews EMRs for pertinent history.
  • Operates MRI scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency and assists in invasive procedures as needed.

ARRT MRI Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology program
CPR certification
