Qualifications

• Successful completion of a radiological program or equivalent military training.
• Two years in diagnostic radiology and one year MRI experience preferred.
• ARRT registered, BLS (or obtained within 90 days of employment), SC license issued by SC Radiation Quality Standards Association

Responsibilities

• Verifies written request for MRI procedures.
• Instructs patients regarding MRI procedures; prepares, positions, and manipulates patients for imaging.
• Selects imaging techniques, calibrates console and hardware as required.
• Obtains images, produces film records and backups, and transfers as requested.
• Performs contrast injections satisfactorily.
• Maintains MRI safety according to policy, practices, ACR and Joint Commission.
• Charges procedures in RMS after procedure.
• Sends images to PACS and verifies availability for interpretation.
• Maintains patient data and study documentation.
• Performs QA on MRI equipment and procedures.
• Maintains MRI lab supplies.
• May instruct staff in MRI procedures.
• Demonstrates care across age groups; adheres to policies and safety.
• Rotates to other imaging departments and participates in on-call rotation.

MRI Technologist operates and maintains a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner to obtain images from patients which are used by physicians to diagnose the nature and extent of designated pathologies. Participates in the establishment of scan protocol, as appropriate.

Duties:

• Verifies written request for MRI procedures.
• Instructs patients regarding MRI procedures; prepares, positions, and manipulates patients to ensure appropriate placement for imaging.
• Selects appropriate imaging techniques, and calibrates console and peripheral hardware as required.
• Obtains images, produces film records and backups from desk to storage media, and transfers from desk to work stations as requested.
• Performs contrast injections satisfactory.
• Maintain current knowledge of MRI environmental, patient and visitor safety as defined by hospital policy, practice, ACR and Joint Commission
• Charges procedures in RMS accurately and immediately after procedure is performed.
• Sends images to PACS appropriately and verifies all are available for interpretation in a timely manner.
• Enters and monitors patient data and maintains accurate study documentation.
• Performs quality assurance on magnetic resonance equipment and procedures.
• Maintains MRI Lab supplies.
• May provide instruction and guidance in MRI procedures to staff in training as assigned.
• Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in the care of the newborn, infant, toddler, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.
• Ensures adherence to established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, QA programs and safety standards.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
• Obtain and correctly document verbal and telephone orders per facility policy (only applies to ARRT licensed staff).
• Rotates to other imaging departments as needed; participates in holiday and on-call rotation requirements.
