Job summary

Atrium Health Cabarrus MRI department is seeking a capable MRI technologist to perform imaging procedures, manage contrast administration, and coordinate with radiologists. The role requires patient identification, history review, and safety best practices in a high‑volume setting.

Eligible for sign-on bonus, 36 hours/week schedule, night shifts 1800-0630; ARRT/MRI registry eligibility and BLS are required within 1 year of hire. Department: MRI at Atrium Health Cabarrus.

Qualifications

• ARRT radiologic or nuclear medicine technology degree required.
• MRI registry must be obtained within 1 year of hire (eligible) or ARMRIT program.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Examine requests and verify orders with Radiologist; contact ordering provider for discrepancies.
• Identify patients using two identifiers and explain procedures; prepare patients and document on worksheets.
• Take medical history from EMRs; record history on requisitions and correlate results with exam.
• Own the exam from start to finish and dictate results.
• Prepare and administer IV contrast per protocols; record type and amount on request.
• Assess image quality; consult Radiologist for abnormalities; process additional images as needed.
• Provide basic patient care; notify nursing staff of condition changes; initiate life support when needed.
• Perform MRI scans and assist during invasive procedures; maintain sterile technique.
• Obtain medications/contrast as directed by licensed practitioner.
• Follow radiation safety standards to protect staff and patients.
• Report equipment malfunctions to supervisor and clinical engineering.
• Maintain knowledge of MRI safety for staff and patients around magnetic fields.
• Adhere to fire/safety procedures and complete safety modules.
• Operate RIS/CIS to enter orders and document contrast administration in MAR.
• Keep work areas neat and stocked; assist anesthesia as needed in MRI exams.
• Ensure MRI safety knowledge for staff around magnetic fields.
