Job summary

Lifepoint Health's Los Alamos Medical Center is seeking an MRI Technician on a PRN, as-needed basis. You will operate the MRI scanner to obtain diagnostic images, educate patients, administer contrast within scope, and monitor patient status for safe, high-quality imaging.

A current NM imaging license and ARRT/JRCERT/ARMRIT/NMTCB accreditation with an associate degree are required. Eligibility for 401(k) style retirement, health and wellness programs, and ongoing professional development are

Qualifications

  • Current NM imaging license.
  • Graduate of an ARRT, JRCERT, ARMRIT, or NMTCB accredited program in Radiologic Technology, Radiation Therapy, MR, or Nuclear Medicine with an associate's degree preferred.
  • BLS certification current upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Operates magnetic resonance scanner to obtain images for physician diagnoses and treatment.
  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure understanding and cooperation.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice when ordered.
  • Monitors patient condition and responds to changes in status.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies; performs quality control on equipment; troubleshoots malfunctions.
  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedures; analyzes results and addresses image quality issues; reports scan results.

How you’ll contribute

An MRI Technician who excels in this role operates magnetic resonance scanner to obtain images for use by physicians in diagnoses and treatment of pathologies. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.
  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies.
  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s).
  • Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results.
  • Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure.
  • Enters, transmits and reports scan results.

What we’re looking for

Applicants should have a current NM imaging license and be a graduate of an ARRT, JRCERT, ARMRIT, or NMTCB accredited program in Radiologic Technology, Radiation Therapy, MR, or Nuclear Medicine with an associate's degree preferred. Additional requirements include:

  • Certification/License:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) current upon hire.
    • ARRT, JRCERT, ARMRIT, or NMTCB registry in Radiology, Radiation Therapy, MR, or Nuclear Medicine Registry required.
    • ARRT Registry in MR required within 1 year hire/transfer.
      • If not ARRT(MR) upon hire, you must work under the supervision of an ARRT(MR) technologist until your ARRT(MR) is obtained.
