Job summary

Los Alamos Medical Center in Los Alamos, NM seeks an MRI Technician for a PRN role. The facility is part of Lifepoint Health and dedicated to delivering high-quality imaging services.

You will operate the MRI scanner, review orders, educate patients about procedures, and administer contrast when ordered. You will monitor patient status, ensure safety, troubleshoot equipment, and report results. A NM imaging license and MR registry within 1 year are required.

Qualifications

  • Requires NM imaging license and ARRT/JRCERT/ARMRIT/NMTCB accredited program in Radiologic Technology, Radiation Therapy, MR, or NM with an associate degree preferred.
  • ARRT Registry in MR required within 1 year of hire/transfer.
  • Must be willing to work in PRN/as-needed MRI setting.

Responsibilities

  • Operate MRI scanner to obtain diagnostic images.
  • Review patient history and physician orders.
  • Educate patients about procedures and exam requirements.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media when ordered.
  • Monitor patient condition and respond to changes.
  • Ensure safety standards and QC on equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and resolve image quality issues.
  • Position patients and perform imaging procedures.
  • Enter and report scan results.

How you'll contribute

An MRI Technician who excels in this role operates magnetic resonance scanner to obtain images for use by physicians in diagnoses and treatment of pathologies. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders.
  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.
  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.
  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.
  • Prepares equipment and supplies.
  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s).
  • Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results.
  • Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure.
  • Enters, transmits and reports scan results.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current NM imaging license and be a graduate of an ARRT, JRCERT, ARMRIT, or NMTCB accredited program in Radiologic Technology, Radiation Therapy, MR, or Nuclear Medicine with an associate's degree preferred. Additional requirements include:

  • Certification/License:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) current upon hire.
    • ARRT, JRCERT, ARMRIT, or NMTCB registry in Radiology, Radiation Therapy, MR, or Nuclear Medicine Registry required.
    • ARRT Registry in MR required within 1 year hire/transfer.
      • If not ARRT(MR) upon hire, you must work under the supervision of an ARRT(MR) technologist until your ARRT(MR) is obtained.
