Job summary

Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) seeks a Highway Maintenance Specialist serving Montrose, CO and the I-70 corridor at West Vail Pass. Join a dedicated team performing snow plowing, equipment operation, and roadway maintenance in a demanding outdoor role.

The position features a rotating two‑week 12‑hour shift schedule, with on‑call duties and seasonal travel along the corridor, plus a base salary of approximately $53,940 per year and comprehensive CDOT benefits.

Qualifications

• Must have at least two years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience.
• Must possess a valid CDL Class A or B with no air brake restriction.
• Able to work outdoors in extreme temperatures and at elevations up to 12,000 feet.

Responsibilities

• Plow snow and operate heavy equipment.
• Mow grass and remove debris; install/repair guardrails and signs.
• Set out traffic control devices and road markings; respond to emergencies.
• Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs.
• Work in a team with leads and other specialists.
