Job summary

Colorado Department of Transportation seeks Highway Maintenance Specialist for the I-70 corridor and Montrose area. The role involves snow plowing, heavy equipment operation, debris removal, and maintaining roadways, with on-call duties during weather events.

Work includes a rotating two-week schedule with 12-hour shifts for six days and 4-hour travel shifts, plus a six‑month per diem for joint operation area assignments. Location shifts between Montrose and the I‑70 corridor.

Qualifications

• Must have at least two years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience.

Responsibilities

• Plowing snow and maintaining roadways.
• Operating heavy equipment such as tandem dump trucks, loaders, and tractors.
• Mowing grass and weeds along roadways.
• Removing debris from roadways and culverts.
• Repairing guardrails, signs, warning devices, and lighting.
• Patching potholes and roadway cracks.
• Setting up traffic control signs and cones.
• Installing pavement markings and striping.
• Stopping or slowing traffic in emergencies.
• Performing routine equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
