Job summary

AMETEK, Inc.'s Haydon Kerk Pittman unit in Waterbury, CT seeks an Applications Engineer – Custom Motion Solutions. You will serve as the primary technical interface for assigned customers and sales territories, guiding opportunities from initial review through prototype evaluation to production handoff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
• 3–5+ years of experience in applications engineering, technical sales support, motion control, electromechanical systems, automation, or related industrial technologies.
• Strong understanding of electromechanical products, motor fundamentals, application requirements, and manufacturing considerations.
• Ability to translate customer needs into technical requirements and actionable engineering inputs.
• Experience supporting customers, sales teams, and cross-functional engineering organizations.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to customers and internal teams.
• Ability to travel domestically as required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical contact for assigned customers, territories, and opportunities.
• Work with customers and Sales to understand application requirements, performance needs, operating conditions, timing, target price, and production expectations.
• Provide technical guidance on HKP motion-control products, including actuators and motors.
• Direct customers toward standard products, existing configurations, or light customization.
• Translate customer needs into clear engineering requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Move qualified opportunities into Engineering quickly when requirements are clear.
• Coordinate technical communication between customers and Engineering to improve responsiveness.
