Job summary

Hancock Whitney in Austin, TX is seeking a Mortgage Loan Originator to originate portfolio loans including conventional, FHA, VA and USDA/RD, while ensuring compliance with investor requirements and bank policies.

You will build referral networks, manage a clean pipeline, collect documents, and coordinate closing with borrowers, processors and attorneys to keep loans moving smoothly to closing. The role requires strong communication and regulatory knowledge, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• 2 years of sales experience required.
• 2+ years of Mortgage origination experience is preferred.
• NMLS registration under the SAFE Act of 2008 required; active registration or re-registration after start date.
• Knowledge of mortgage laws, procedures, rules and regulations (federal/state/local).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Outlook.
• Excellent communication, analytical, customer service and organizational skills.
• Ability to travel if required to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Provides expert mortgage advice to potential borrowers.
• Stays current with underwriting policy, investor guidelines and applicable laws.
• Develops and maintains referral networks with Realtors, builders and community contacts.
• Manages a clean pipeline of loans in process with processors, underwriters and closers.
• Delivers all compliance documents and disclosures in a timely manner.
• Takes complete applications and collects all required documentation for verification.
• Prepares borrowers for the process and keeps all parties updated on status and developments.
• Informs applicants of closing costs and coordinates closing with borrowers, agents and others.
• Interviews applicants to document income, debt and credit history; determines establishment standards.
