Job summary

Essent Group Ltd. in Radnor, PA (or remote) is seeking an Underwriter - Mortgage Insurance to review and underwrite mortgage insurance applications, determine risk, and document decisions per Essent guidelines and DU/LPA.

The role requires three years of underwriting experience, a business-related degree preferred, strong communication skills, and the ability to work with lenders and internal teams to meet service levels. Overtime/weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Three years of underwriting experience in the mortgage banking industry
• Knowledge of premium coverage requirements desirable
• Willingness to participate in overtime and weekend work
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Expertise knowledge of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac underwriting guidelines and DU/LPA automated underwriting systems
• Capable of performing complex self-employment income calculations
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong collaboration and teamwork focus

Responsibilities

• Underwrite mortgage insurance application files for acceptable risk based on published guidelines
• Analyze loan characteristics and risk factors to determine mortgage insurance eligibility and make sound underwriting decisions
• Document underwriting decisions, conditions, and rationale accurately within company systems
• Apply Essent underwriting guidelines and any approved programs consistently
• Execute tasks to meet productivity and quality metrics
• Communicate loan level decisions with lenders and internal teams
• Participate in training, staff meetings, and QA reviews
• Perform other duties as assigned by management
