Job summary

Cart.com is seeking a detail-oriented Merchant of Record Accountant to own end-to-end MoR accounting operations across brands. You will ensure payment processing integrity, handle settlements, tax compliance, and financial reporting with strong internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
• 3–7 years in payments operations, merchant services, accounting, or finance in ecommerce/tech.
• Strong understanding of payment processing, settlements, merchant accounts, and controls.
• Hands-on experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.
• Advanced Excel and ability to analyze large datasets.
• Working knowledge of SQL and analytics tools.
• Nice to have MoR vendor experience and payment platforms like Stripe/PayPal.

Responsibilities

• Own MoR accounting and operational oversight across brands.
• Review and approve high-value transactions and settlements per thresholds.
• Monitor payment exceptions, holds, chargebacks, refunds.
• Maintain transaction-level review to minimize errors and leakage.
• Liaise for payment processing, settlements, tax compliance, and reporting.
• Perform reconciliations between payment platforms, banking, systems and GL.
• Investigate discrepancies with root cause and resolution.
• Support month-end close with journal entries and reconciliations.
• Improve controls and pursue automation opportunities.
• Develop policies, procedures, and playbooks for MoR operations.
