Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Research Engineer to convert mission-level simulations into actionable software and analyses. You will split time between building robust C++/Python modeling tools and performing R&D on real-world mission-system behaviors to inform system requirements and capability tradeoffs.

Ideal candidates have a physics/math/software background, strong C++17+ experience, Python proficiency, and the ability to obtain SAP and security clearances. U.S.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in physics, mathematics, software engineering, or related field.
• Experience building robust, maintainable software with modern C++17 or newer, including numerical methods or modeling complex phenomena.
• Proficient in Python for analysis and automation.
• Experience designing and conducting experiments using simulation, modeling, or data-driven methods.
• Experience translating research concepts, algorithms, or analytical results into practical software prototypes and evaluating their performance.
• Clear communication with developers and end-users about technical issues, tradeoffs, and new features.
• Able to obtain SAP level access and Interim Secret/Top Secret clearances; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsabilidades

• Develop software (approximately half time): create and validate C++ modeling and simulation capabilities from requirements through implementation; build Python tools for scenario generation and data processing.
• Perform research and analysis (approximately half time): conduct R&D on real-world mission-system behaviors and analyze simulation output for utility and tradeoffs; translate needs into modeling requirements.
