Résumé du poste

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory seeks an engineer to turn mission-level simulation into decision-ready software. You will split time between developing C++ modeling capabilities and Python tooling, and performing research to ground simulations in real-world behaviors.

You will analyze outputs to evaluate utility and inform requirements, translating analyst needs into modeling tasks while collaborating with developers and end-users. A security clearance is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, mathematics, software engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience building robust, maintainable software with modern C++17 or newer, including numerical methods or modeling complex phenomena.
  • Proficiency in Python for analysis and automation.
  • Experience designing experiments using simulation, modeling, or data-driven methods to evaluate hypotheses and inform decisions.
  • Ability translating research concepts into software prototypes and evaluating performance.
  • Clear communication with developers and end-users about technical issues, tradeoffs, and new features.
  • Willingness to obtain SAP access and security clearances.

Responsabilités

  • Develop software (approx. half time): C++ modeling/simulation, from requirements through implementation.
  • Build Python and C++ tools for scenario generation and data processing.
  • Conduct R&D on real-world mission-system behaviors and ground models in system performance.
  • Analyze simulation outputs to assess utility, requirements, and tradeoffs.
  • Translate analyst needs into modeling requirements.
