Akkodis is seeking a Senior Level Plant Modeling Engineer to join our Detroit Metro team to support an OEM vehicle manufacturer for the next several years. The ideal candidate has about 5 years of experience with real-time simulation, HIL systems, and hands-on work with dSPACE ASM, processor cards, I/O cards, and HIL rack building/debugging.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, or related field.
  • Ideally 5 years in plant modeling, real-time simulation or HIL for automotive.
  • Strong hands-on experience with dSPACE ASM, processor cards, I/O cards and HIL rack debugging.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, and Simscape.
  • Experience with plant models for real-time HIL and related tools (CarMaker/CarSim/ASM/DYNA4).

Responsibilities

  • Identify plant model requirements for HIL and system integration testing.
  • Develop and support real-time simulation models using MATLAB/Simulink, Simscape, ASM, CarMaker, and related tools.
  • Build, configure, and debug dSPACE HIL racks, including processor and I/O cards.
  • Support integration and validation of plant models for closed-loop testing.
  • Develop automation scripts using M scripts and Python to improve model integration and workflow efficiency.
  • Interface with hardware, controls, and domain simulation teams to adapt models for HIL testing.
  • Establish validation metrics with requirement owners and verify models against vehicle or field data.
  • Document, track, and resolve modeling issues; participate in root cause analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Improve model fidelity, performance, and scalability for current and future programs.

Job description

Due to continued expansion, Akkodis is seeking a Senior Level Plant Modeling Engineer to join our large dedicated Akkodis team for the next several years to support our OEM vehicle manufacturer in the Detroit Metro area. Our desired candidate will ideally possess 5 years of professional experience to include strong hands-on experience with dSPACE ASM, processor cards, I/O cards, and HIL rack building/debugging. Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, and Simscape.

Starting Pay Range: Up to $125,000/yr (salary commensurate based on experience and education levels).

Plant Modeling Engineer job responsibilities include:

  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify plant model requirements for HIL and system integration testing.
  • Develop and support real-time simulation models using MATLAB/Simulink, Simscape, ASM, CarMaker, and related tools.
  • Build, configure, and debug dSPACE HIL racks, including processor and I/O cards.
  • Support integration and validation of plant models for closed-loop testing.

  • Develop tools and processes to optimize modeling and simulation activities.
  • Contribute to the development of robust engineering solutions for next-generation electric vehicle programs.

QUALIFICATIONS (required):

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, or a related engineering field.
  • Ideally, 5 years of professional experience in plant modeling, real-time simulation, or HIL systems for automotive applications.
  • Strong hands-on experience with dSPACE ASM, processor cards, I/O cards, and HIL rack building/debugging.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, and Simscape.
  • Experience in developing vehicle- and system-level plant models for real-time HIL applications.
  • Good knowledge of automotive subsystems such as:
  • Vehicle dynamics and traffic simulation
  • Electric machines and components
  • EV architecture and power flow
  • Chassis, powertrain, ADAS, and body system interactions
  • Experience with dSPACE HIL simulators and ControlDesk.
  • Ability to configure and work independently with RTI CAN MM and BUS Manager.
  • Knowledge of radar, LiDAR, camera sensors, and I/O systems.
  • Experience with plant model development using CarMaker, CarSim, ASM, or DYNA4.
  • Proven problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Ability to learn new tools, methods, and technologies quickly.
