Job summary

Diagnostic Laboratories & Radiology is seeking a dedicated phlebotomist to travel to client facilities, primarily nursing homes, collecting blood samples and ensuring accurate patient identification and labeling.

The role requires strong knowledge of phlebotomy techniques, proper specimen handling, and strict adherence to patient rights and privacy. A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle are required for daily routes in California.

Qualifications

• Current clinical licensure, if required by state.
• Knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to laboratory purposes.
• Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, techniques including venipuncture and site decontamination.
• Knowledge of specimen preservation, patient preparation and procedures.
• Must have a current and valid Driver's License and Auto Insurance.
• Must have access to a vehicle in good condition meeting daily driving needs.
• Must maintain a good driving record.
• Must be able to work under minimal supervision and maintain time sheets.
• Must understand resident rights, patient care and patient rights to refuse.
• Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under various conditions.
• Proficient in written/verbal English.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients and staff.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to take directions and conduct self professionally.

Responsibilities

• Drive personal vehicle to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) as directed by dispatcher or supervisor.
• Follow established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples.
• Identify patients properly prior to drawing.
• Label specimens and ensure requisitions include billing information.
• Transport specimens in proper tubes with required documentation.
• Plan and organize draw schedule with patient priority.
• Maintain neat and accurate logs and time sheets.
• Coordinate with dispatch, payroll, lab and courier teams.
• Maintain all equipment in good condition and report issues promptly.
• Answer mobile device promptly when on-duty and be available to work.
• Notify dispatcher of availability for future assignments.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
