Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks skilled technicians to diagnose, repair, inspect, and maintain a wide range of automotive and construction equipment across varied locations. Efforts include on-site repairs, preventive maintenance, and safety inspections.

Candidates should be able to read service manuals, operate diagnostic tools, and perform major repairs on diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems. CDL/DOT eligibility is required within 11 months.

Qualifications

  • Ability to independently diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline trucks and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports.
  • Possess or be able to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose vehicle, equipment or asset failures using diagnostic tools and manuals.
  • Perform preventive maintenance per PM schedule and guidelines.
  • Repair and overhaul engines, transmissions, driveline components, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Prepare and process maintenance work orders and complete paperwork.
