Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled technician to diagnose, repair, inspect, and maintain a wide range of automotive and construction equipment. You will perform on-vehicle and on-site repairs, manage preventive maintenance, and ensure compliance with safety and inspection standards.

The role requires ability to read manuals, use diagnostic tools, and fabricate/weld components as needed.

Qualifications

Perform major repairs and maintenance on a variety of diesel and gasoline trucks and equipment.
Maintain accurate records and reports.
Obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months and comply with DOT/VDOT policies.

Responsibilities

Diagnose vehicle and equipment failures and perform repairs.
Prepare equipment for emergency operations and reduce downtime on the road.
Process work orders and maintain maintenance documentation.
Perform repairs on engines, driveline components, electrical and computer systems, fuel injection, HVAC, hydraulics, pneumatic systems, and air brakes.
Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment per PM schedule.
Perform Virginia State Inspections under VSP guidelines.
Design, fabricate, modify, and weld components as needed for repair/replacement.
